Dallas-based specialty coffee company White Rhino Coffee announced it has acquired fellow DFW business Emporium Pies, bringing two majority-women-owned chains together.

The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, though the businesses said Emporium Pies will continue operating as its own brand.

“For now, it simply means coffee and pie — two of life’s best comforts — can be enjoyed across both brands,” White Rhino CEO Sara Escamilla said in a press release.

The companies said Emporium Pies’ core baking staff will remain in place, with co-owner Addie Roberts continuing alongside the team to maintain recipe consistency.

“Their products are consistently excellent, impeccably crafted and beloved,” Escamilla said. “Every pie is made with the highest quality ingredients. To be able to support and grow a concept of this caliber is an honor.”

In the near term, White Rhino said it plans to explore expanding Emporium Pies’ footprint across the Dallas-Fort Worth area while rolling out collaborations and integrated menus such as signature coffee-and-pie pairings. Emporium Pies shops are expected to begin serving White Rhino-branded coffee and cold brew by the end of the year.

The acquisition follows a period of rapid growth at White Rhino. Founded in 2007 by Chris Parvin, the roasting and retail company has expanded from a single cafe to approximately 15 locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

White Rhino’s Escamilla was named CEO earlier this year and tasked with leading the company’s continued growth.

Emporium Pies, known for its “Fine Pie for Fine Folk” tagline, traces its roots to pies sold outside a remodeled 1930s Victorian bungalow in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District. The company now operates four retail locations in Bishop Arts, Deep Ellum, McKinney and Fort Worth. Founders Megan Wilkes and Mary Sparks sold the business in 2022 to sisters Landon Perdue, Jen Abohosh and Roberts, according to D Magazine.
