Every Friday, our editors compile a trusty list of recommendations to answer the most pressing of questions: “Where should I eat?“ Here are four places to check out this weekend in Los Angeles. And if you need some ideas on where to drink, here’s our list of the hottest places to get cocktails in town.
For holiday drinks and pumpkin flan: Daisy Margarita Bar in Sherman Oaks
I’m not really someone who seeks out holiday pop-ups or menu takeovers in December but I recently had a chance to be charmed by the festive, irreverent holiday drink specials at award-winning margarita bar Daisy in Sherman Oaks. Daisy’s “Merry-rita Bar,” which runs through December, adds seasonal holiday drinks to its already winning slate, including a Christmas Tree margarita infused with pine flavor, a Partridge and Pear rendition with poached pear and a duck fat wash, a cannot-be-missed Gingerbread House milk punch, a Yule paloma, and champurrado eggnog. Even if you’re not hungry, be sure to order the excellent trio of salsas and chips, as well as the pepita-studded pumpkin flan with whipped creme fraiche. Christmascore decorations only heighten the experience. 14633 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. — Nicole Fellah, Eater editorial manager
For Filipino breakfast and fun lattes: Bakers & Baristas in Artesia
Although I live in the Pasadena area, my dentist is in Cerritos (long story), so every time I have to get a cleaning, I make sure to scout the area for a bite. Bakers & Baristas was recommended to me by my colleague, Nicole, and I was wowed by my order of medium-rare tapsilog served with punchy garlic rice, tangy atchara, and pleasantly pink pickled onions; a yolky fried egg completes the dish. I tore into every last bite of steak with rice — my favorite type of breakfast — and washed the entire thing down with a yuzu Arnold Palmer. Specialty lattes, like matcha einspanners and spiced mochas, are available too. I can’t wait to return, and I doubt I’ll wait another six months for my next cleaning. 11700 South Street, Artesia, CA 90701 — Kat Thompson, audience editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest
For chewy bagels layered with lox and cream cheese: Boichik Bagels in Los Feliz
Los Angeles already has its fair share of great bagels, so there’s a natural suspicion when something from out of town moves in. That slight side-eye got dispelled immediately when Bay Area-based Boichik Bagels fired up its ovens in Los Angeles for the first time, casting the scent of fresh-baked dough out onto Hollywood Boulevard. Compared to the often-crunchy-crusted bagels popularized by places like Courage, Boichik’s bagel is thicker with a pronounced chew. Go for the classic lox sandwich, layered with thick slices of salty cured salmon, a generous smear of cream cheese, diced red onions, slices of tomatoes, and dotted with capers. 4655 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027.— Rebecca Roland, deputy editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest
For top-tier sweets from one of LA’s best bakers: Southern Girl Desserts in Baldwin Hills
Owners Catarah Coleman and Shoneji Robison started their baked goods venture in 2007. As longtime friends, the duo sought to bring their flavorful Florida upbringing to Southern California and eventually won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. In 2012, Coleman and Robison opened a brick-and-mortar location for Southern Girl Desserts in Baldwin Hills, filled with everything delicious, Southern, and often with a twist. Vanilla buttercream and red velvet cupcakes are classics, while sweet potato bundt cake is a favorite. The hybrid sweet potato pecan pie also satisfies, as does the peach cobbler danish. Take a slice of the lemon pound cake or generously buttery Sock It To Me cake home for later snacking. Or just get a box of various options for sustenance throughout the holidays. Showing up with a box of Southern Girl Desserts is a surefire way to get reinvited to any gathering in 2026. They also ship nationwide through Goldbelly. 3650 W.
