TUBAC, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Friends of the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum have secured the American Latino History grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), marking a milestone achievement. This funding aims to enhance the interpretation of Latin American histories at the park and museum, according to a press release.

On Jan. 2, it was announced that IMLS awarded the largest grant in the organization’s history to Arizona’s first state park.

“This transformational support allows us to strengthen every facet of our work,” Kendyll Collins, executive director, said.

Collins said this support will allow the Friends of the Tubac Presidio to redesign museum exhibits, install Spanish-language signage, enrich interpretation at the historic Rojas House, and provide Spanish classes for volunteers.

“We have tried to inch towards these goals incrementally for years. This funding allows us to realize them holistically, and we are deeply grateful to IMLS,” Collins added.

The Friends of the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum is a nonprofit organization committed to fostering an interest in the history of the Tubac Presidio and the diverse cultures of Southern Arizona.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s libraries and museums. It empowers America’s museums and libraries through grantmaking, research, and policy development.
