Tulum Mexican Cuisine opens new restaurant in Stone Oak

A new high-end Mexican restaurant has debuted in North San Antonio, offering both classic eats and specialty recipes.

Tulum Mexican Cuisine officially opened Nov. 20, restaurant management told Community Impact. The eatery is located at 17026 Bulverde Road, Ste. 112, just south of Loop 1604 and Stone Oak.

The restaurant was previously home to Rusty Tacos at the Bulverde Marketplace shopping center.

On the menu is a variety of traditional Mexican cuisine, according to the restaurant’s website.

Locally owned Bandidas Ice Cream relocates within New Braunfels

Bandidas Ice Cream relocated from 383 Paradise Alley to 231 Landa St., New Braunfels, on Dec. 11.

The ice cream-based food truck is locally owned by Jewel Hill. Bandidas Ice Cream sells sweet treats like s’mores and blueberry cobbler ice cream. Hill said she hopes to begin offering barbecue again in the future.

Sicilian Butcher opens North San Antonio location

The Sicilian Butcher and its bakery, the Sicilian Baker, is now open in Landmark North along Loop 1604.

Offering handmade pasta daily, the Italian eatery’s menu also features a wide selection of appetizers, salads, pizza and signature dishes.

Appetizers include eggplant and ‘nduja croquettes, shrimp and calamari, and Italian Saganaki, which is grilled ciabatta with imported Kefalotyri cheese flambeed table-side.

Local wine bar brings a taste of Europe to New Braunfels

After traveling to wineries across Portugal, Spain and the rest of Europe, Abigail Porter and Matt Bizer wanted to bring the same flavors and atmosphere back to Texas.

“We always thought New Braunfels needed something like they have over there,” Bizer said.

That’s why Bizer and Porter opened up Favorite Neighbor in July, a wine bar that offers not only tastings but also a sense of community and trying new things.

“We kind of did this on a whim,” Porter said. “But so far, it’s been pretty fun.”

Located inside a converted gas station at 494 N. Union Ave., Porter said she wanted to capture a rustic, minimal feel for the bar prior to opening.
