SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A day of giving back to the community.
The Scranton community gathered for Hola Scranton’s Hispanic Festival. The free event celebrates culture, connection, and community.
Family and friends had a field day enjoying delicious authentic Hispanic food, playing outdoor games, and even entering the festival’s bounce house. Along with the fun, the community had the chance to learn about local organizations that provide resources and support.
“We are at the park and we are representing First Haitian Metanoia Baptist Church. And we’re part of the SERVE tour, all of us. And we’re here to help everyone and get everyone out here to just tell them a little bit about God and show them the greatness of humanity and just of everything us here, everything we have to offer,” said Keysha Rene, SERVE member.
SERVE wasn’t the only organization festival-goers connected with. Golden Care NEPA enlightened the community about their efforts to “expand the services and capabilities of the home care community.”
“We provide the adult services, like, instead of going to the nursing home. I like to make it very simple. We could take care of our adult at home with the loved one at home and have, like, a family environment with them, and we could keep taking care of them,” said Hema Singh, Golden Homecare and Childcare Services.
Organizers say the festival serves as an outlet for organizations and leaders to collaborate, despite their different roles and services they offer.
“Even if you are running with the different vendors to different businesses, it’s good to be together, to run together as a community and grow together,” said Singh.
The diversity is what makes the festival such a beautiful thing to witness.
“I’m excited to see new faces of all types of people and see just the diversity that this world has to offer,” said Rene.
