The Star Alliance carrier, which operates more direct flights between Auckland and the United States than any other carrier, already operates to five US destinations, including Honolulu, Houston, New York JFK, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The carrier previously served Chicago; however, this route is currently paused due to ongoing Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine troubles on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The carrier hopes to relaunch its direct link to the Windy City (Chicago) soon.
34,000 Additional Seats
Between October 2025 and March 2026, Air New Zealand will add 34,000 (8%) additional seats to and from the United States, with an extra 20,500 (15%) premium seats across its long-haul network. The service increase will also see seven newly retrofitted aircraft rejoin the fleet, offering a freshened in-flight experience, including the carrier’s new business class product.
Air New Zealand’s network operates to destinations around the Pacific Rim, with the airline adding 4,300 seats to Asian destinations (such as Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bali). This comes from strong outbound demand from New Zealand and strong inbound visitor interest. Jeremy O’Brien, Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer, noted:
“We’re seeing strong demand, including growing popularity of our premium cabins. Customers want a more comfortable and seamless experience, and we are responding by increasing premium availability and growing flight frequencies across our long-haul network.”
Refreshed Cabins Provide An Enhanced Onboard Experience
After spending six months in Singapore, ZK-NZH was the first Dreamliner ever to see a full nose-to-tail retrofit and brought home the hotly anticipated new onboard experience. The reimagined onboard cabins, which include a newly designed business and premium economy class, are already put to work, serving integral destinations like Brisbane and San Francisco.
The new cabin experience includes the Business Premier Luxe, which includes the first four new seats in the front of the Business Premier Cabin, which has additional space for two to dine, a larger bed, and a full closing door. Other inclusions of the newly retrofitted cabin are outlined below:
