Alabama redshirt sophomore safety Kameron Howard announced Saturday he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Howard played in two games this season as a backup against Wisconsin and ULM in September. His only 11 snaps on defense this season came in the fourth quarter against ULM.

Howard was not in uniform November 22 against Eastern Illinois and had been listed as “out” on the availability report against Auburn, Georgia in the SEC championship game and Oklahoma in the CFP first round.

Howard transferred to Alabama from Charlotte before the 2024 season. He played in 12 games as a freshman for the 49ers in 2023 before playing in four games last season for the Tide and redshirting.

Alabama Transfer Portal Tracker: Latest updates on who’s coming and going

The transfer portal officially opens January 2 and closes January 16, with teams competing in the CFP national championship game receiving an additional five days to enter.

Howard is the first player on Alabama’s 2025 roster to announce he will enter the portal; wide receiver Aeryn Hampton, who left the team in August, is also expected to enter.

Alabama’s starting safeties in 2025, Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, both have eligibility remaining but must decide whether they will enter the 2026 NFL draft. Their top backups this season have been sophomore Zavier Mincey and freshman Ivan Taylor, while sophomore Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been suspended since late October.

Alabama’s incoming 2026 freshman class includes a pair of safeties in four-star Jireh Edwards and three-star Rihyael Kelley.
