Alaska Airlines is adding new nonstop routes from San Diego to three cities along with additional flights on existing routes, the company announced Tuesday.

The three new nonstop routes, operating year-round, begin Aug. 20, with service to Phoenix. The Chicago O’Hare and Denver routes follow on Oct. 4.

Each route includes three daily flights.

More changes come Oct. 26, with more flights added to Alaska’s most popular routes out of San Diego. The increase in frequencies will be 50% or more.

Six daily nonstops will be scheduled to Las Vegas, Sacramento and San Jose. Three other daily flights will head to Salt Lake City.

“We are very pleased that Alaska Airlines is continuing to grow its service from San Diego,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO. “The timing is perfect for adding new routes and increasing frequency to existing flights.”

Tickets for the new routes can be purchased now at alaskaair.com. Flights for the expanded schedule will be available beginning this weekend.

With the new routes on the combined Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines network, there will be 44 nonstop destinations from San Diego, the most nonstops of any airline serving the airport, Alaska said in a news release.

“These exciting new additions to our network further expand our ability to take San Diegans directly to where they want to go, better than any other airline, with our premium onboard service and global loyalty program,” said Ben Minicucci, CEO at Alaska Air Group.

More options from merger

Alaska’s merger with Hawaiian, which received the green light from the government last fall, is enabling an expanded network with connections on more than 1,650 daily flights this summer. The merger, along with additional global partners, has extended Alaska’s one-stop service from San Diego to more than 330 destinations.

Alaska began daily nonstop service between San Diego and Washington Reagan National in March. San Diego had been the largest U.S. airport without service to the airport in the heart of the nation’s capitol.

For a limited time, California and Hawaii residents who join Alaska’s Mileage Plan loyalty program will receive $50 off their next flight when they enroll. New members will need to book travel within 28 days of enrollment and take their flight within 90 days.
