After an almost 20-year hiatus, Televisa telenovela star and Mexico’s former first lady Angélica Rivera returns to acting in ViX’s upcoming series Con Esa Misma Mirada. The project is a modern adaptation of the groundbreaking Mirada de Mujer, a Mexican telenovela which ran in the late 1990s, which itself was a remake of the Colombian series Señora Isabel.
For Rivera, whose last starring role was in 2007 on Destilando Amor (itself a remake of Colombian hit Café, con Aroma de Mujer), this marks her first foray into streaming. She will also be working alongside her daughter, Sofía Castro, for the first time.
The original Mirada de Mujer, produced by Argos Comunicación for TV Azteca, aired from 1997 to 1998 and became a cultural phenomenon. Starring Angélica Aragón, Ari Telch and the late Fernando Luján, the series broke barriers with its revolutionary storyline about a woman who finds love with a younger man after being abandoned by her husband for a considerably younger woman.
At the time, the show challenged traditional norms surrounding women’s sexuality, aging, and relationships, sparking conversations about gender roles. It inspired other adaptations like Victoria, a 2007 Telemundo – RTI Colombia production starring Victoria Ruffo, Arturo Peniche and Mauricio Ochmann.
Con Esa Misma Mirada aims to reimagine the story for a new generation – one that won’t necessarily sit through more than 200 daily episodes.
The new adaptation, again produced by Argos, now for ViX, features two of the original writers: Jimena Romero and Gilma Peña, as well as Camila Ibarra.
The cast includes Diego Klein, Iván Sánchez, Sofía Castro, Ivanna Castro and Nicolás Haza and also features Ximena Herrera, Pamela Almanza, Fernanda Borches, Iliana Fox, Juan Ríos Cantú, Blanca Guerra, and Adriana Llabrés.
The series is directed by Alba Gil and Pitipol Ybarra. General producers Epigmenio Ibarra and Verónica Velasco, along with executive producer Patricia Benítez and producer Fides Velasco, helm the production.
Filming recently wrapped in Mexico City, and the show is set to premiere in 2025.
