PHOENIX — A California-based technology company is investing $200 million to establish a chipmaking factory in Chandler.
A Wednesday announcement from Applied Materials said these funds will build a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing components for semiconductor equipment.
Applied Materials President and CEO Gary Dickerson said his company has invested over $400 million in strengthening the semiconductor supply chain in the U.S.
“Strengthening America’s semiconductor leadership has never been more important than in today’s AI era,” Dickerson said in the announcement. “We are honored to work alongside industry leaders to strengthen the U.S. chip supply chain.”
The company is also committing to supporting the partnership between Apple and Texas Instruments by giving chipmaking equipment to TI’s domestic factories.
These two actions reflect the way Applied Materials is a key part of Arizona’s technological network, according to Arizona Commerce Authority CEO Sandra Watson.
“Applied Materials’ new advanced manufacturing facility will further bolster Arizona’s robust semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen U.S. supply chain resiliency,” Watson said.
The chipmaking factory in Chandler could support 200 new jobs in the next five years, according to the announcement.
“Across important areas such as equipment, (research and development) and workforce training, Applied has been a tremendous industry partner,” Watson said. “We’re grateful for their continued leadership and commitment to Arizona.”
