Associa, a leading community management company, is expanding into multifamily development. The firm launched its real estate development arm, Associa Development Group (ADG), over the summer to pursue Class A multifamily and mixed-use opportunities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
“Associa has spent decades helping communities thrive, and the creation of ADG represents an exciting next step in that commitment,” notes CEO John Carona. “By expanding into real estate development, we have an opportunity to apply our experience, resources, and long-term perspective to creating thoughtfully planned residential communities.”
ADG plans to focus on the development of high-quality multifamily communities in growing suburban markets supported by population growth, employment opportunities, and infrastructure investment, with a goal of starting two to three projects annually beginning in 2027.
According to ADG, through its initial focus on the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, it aims to establish a scalable development platform that supports Associa’s long-term growth strategy while creating high-quality projects that meet evolving community and resident needs. ADG will oversee key phases of the development process, including site acquisition, feasibility analysis, entitlement, design, financing, and construction oversight.
“The time is right for Associa to pursue multifamily development because we see an opportunity to bring together our decades of experience in community management with a disciplined, long-term approach to real estate investment,” says Clinton C. Wallis, senior vice president and broker at ADG. “As we look at the growth taking place across north Texas, we believe we can create thoughtfully designed rental communities that meet evolving housing needs while building lasting value for our residents, partners, and the communities we serve. We’re entering this next chapter with a focus on identifying the right locations, making sound investment decisions, and building for sustainable growth.”
While multifamily will be ADG’s focus, it may incorporate ground-floor retail or other commercial uses into developments based on municipal requirements and potential opportunities. It may also pursue office product when strategically aligned with Associa’s real estate needs.
The company’s broader real estate experience includes Associa’s corporate headquarters in Richardson, Texas, and Harmony Bank developments in north Texas. These provide a foundation for ADG’s planned expansion into multifamily, according to the firm.
