ASU football receives votes in college football coaches pollArizona State rises in Big 12 football rankings

The Arizona State football team continues to rise in college football polls and rankings.

After a 48-7 win over Wyoming in Week 1, the Sun Devils climbed 49 spots to No. 56 in the country in USA TODAY Sports’ ranking of every Football Bowl Subdivision team.

After a 30-23 win over Mississippi State in Week 2, the program’s first win over an SEC team, ASU football is up another 14 spots to No. 44, which is interestingly one spot ahead of the rival Arizona Wildcats.

Not bad for a team that didn’t have much expectations entering the 2024 season (and was ranked last in some preseason Big 12 polls).

Kenny Dillingham’s team’s next test comes on the road Thursday against Texas State, which is 2-0 after a 49-10 win over UTSA in Week 2. The Bobcats rose 29 spots to No. 54 in the USA TODAY Sports ranking, which is compiled by Paul Myerberg.

Troy Omeire (9), Jordyn Tyson (0) and the Arizona State Sun Devils football team are climbing in college football rankings after an impressive 2-0 start.

ASU football receives votes in college football coaches poll

The Sun Devils have made an appearance in the US LBM Coaches Poll this week, just not in the Top 25.

ASU received two votes, which would technically put it in a tie for No. 44 with Pittsburgh, Michigan State and BYU.

Arizona State didn’t receive any votes after Week 1. ASU football didn’t receive any votes in the Associated Press poll.

Arizona State rises in Big 12 football rankings

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal now has ASU ranked No. 10 in the Big 12 after its 2-0 start.

It was No. 13 last week.

Don Williams wrote: “ASU’s conquest of Mississippi State was the Sun Devils’ first against an SEC school.”

Colorado Buffaloes Wire had the Sun Devils all the way up to No. 9 in its power ranking for the conference.

The highest spot in a Big 12 power ranking for ASU, however, will really surprise you.

Heartland College Sports has Arizona State ranked No. 1 in its conference ranking after two weeks.

Yes, No. 1.

The site’s ranking isn’t based on projections for how the season will end, it just takes into account how teams are playing right now.

And it has the Sun Devils at the very top of the conference.

Pete Mundo wrote: “If you told me I’d have the Sun Devils in the top spot two weeks into the Big 12 season, I would’ve asked what you were smoking. But here we are. Arizona State has put together a pair of solid wins vs. Wyoming and Mississippi State. The Sun Devils piled up 359 rushing yards against the SEC foe while also making Blake Shapen look very mediocre at QB. This looks like a team that will cause headaches in the Big 12 this season.”
