Delta says travel is affected at 13 airports.

ATLANTA — Flights to the Caribbean from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were canceled on Saturday after the Federal Aviation Administration closed airspace because of the U.S. military operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Several users on social media reported being unable to leave the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

The FAA issued the airspace restrictions citing “safety-of-flight risks associated with ongoing military activity” after President Donald Trump announced early Saturday that U.S. forces had captured Maduro following strikes on the capital of Caracas.

Delta, headquartered in Atlanta and with the largest presence in the city, began canceling flights on Saturday morning. The airline said it would offer a travel waiver for travel between Saturday, Jan. 3, and Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The cancellations affect 13 airports:

  • ANU – V.C. Bird International Airport serving St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. City: St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.
  • AUA – Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport. City: Oranjestad, Aruba.
  • BGI – Grantley Adams International Airport. City: Bridgetown, Barbados.
  • BON – Bonaire International Airport (Flamingo Gateway). City: Kralendijk, Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles/Sint Eustatius and Saba region; commonly listed as Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba).
  • CUR – Hato International Airport. City: Willemstad, Curaçao.
  • GND – Point–Salines International Airport. City: St. George’s, Grenada.
  • SJU – Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. City: San Juan, Puerto Rico.
  • SKB – Simon Bolivar International Airport. City: Clifton, St. Kitts (commonly: Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis).
  • STT – Cyril E. King International Airport. City: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • STX – Henry E. Rohlsen Airport. City: Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • SVD – Argyle International Airport. City: Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • SXM – Princess Juliana International Airport. City: Maho Beach, Sint Maarten (Dutch side; city often associated with Philipsburg, Sint Maarten).
  • UVF – Hewanorra International Airport. City: VieuxFort, Saint Lucia.

Customers with travel bookings during this period will receive a notification from Delta with instructions on how to make changes to existing bookings.
