A special concert honoring the 100th birthday of Miles Davis is set to take place as part of the Atlanta Jazz Festival weekend in May.
The Miles Electric Band (also known as M.E.B.) will take to the stage and perform their brand of modern jazz music live on Friday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Symphony Hall.
Founded in 2010 by producer and drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., the nephew of Miles Davis, the group has spent more than a decade touring major concert halls and festivals around the world, playing boundary-pushing music that also pays homage to Davis’ groundbreaking electric period.
The band’s latest album, That You Not Dare To Forget, features never-released studio recordings and echoes from Davis, with two of the five songs incorporating unreleased trumpet performances from the iconic musician.
M.E.B.’s musician lineup (which rotates from performance to performance) for the upcoming Atlanta concert showcases a mix of Miles Davis alumni and the next generation of modern jazz stars, including Darryl Jones on bass, Robert Irving III on keyboards, Jean-Paul Etienne Bourelly on guitar and more, according to a press release.
The show is presented by the Atlanta Jazz Festival, an annual music event (now in its 49th year) that aims to “educate and entertain a diverse audience of jazz fans while nurturing the next generation of jazz musicians,” said a release.
Tickets for the Miles Electric Band show are currently available online through the Ticketmaster website.
