As summer vacation comes to a close, North Houston business and leisure destination, City Place, brings a range of complimentary and family-friendly programming to the community’s central Plaza at 1250 Lake Plaza Drive.

Seasonal Programming

The complimentary concert series, Hot Nights, Cool Grooves, marks its final show for the season on Saturday, August 2 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm with performances by DJ Jaime Martinez, The Tiarras and Bidi Bidi Banda. The evening will also showcase food trucks, giveaways and samplings from Saint Arnold Brewing Company.

City Place’s latest pop-up art exhibition, Flower Clouds, is on display through August 27. Commissioned by London-based creative studio Graphic Rewilding – known internationally for imaginative installations that bridge urban and natural worlds – the piece is presented as a collection of whimsical park benches that colorfully depict more than 25 species of natural vegetation (as well as insects and birds) native to the Texas Gulf Coast region. Each of the unique benches reaches over six feet tall and nearly 10 feet wide and serves as a canvas for the hand drawn designs created Graphic Rewilding’s signature bold, pop impressionism style. Open to the public and free of charge, Flower Clouds can be experienced daily from 7 am until 10 pm.

Young Audiences of Houston Programming

The Fishbowl Art Project on Thursday, August 7 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am celebrates the whimsy of painting techniques and paper manipulation while reinforcing literacy. Participants will illustrate English and Spanish prepositions.

In the session Painting with Watercolor Pencils on Thursday, August 14 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, participants will explore color mixing, learn techniques like grid drawing and graphite transfer, and create their own masterpieces inspired by portraits, landscapes, or still life.

The Ojo de Dios Art Workshop on Thursday, August 21 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am showcases a meditative device dating back to the 15th century Huichol culture of Western Mexico. It’s a practice that allows the maker to petition for wisdom, peace or seek resolution to a problem.

During the Make a Book Workshop on Thursday, August 28 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, participants will take part in designing and creating their very own customized journal.
