Avelo Airlines on Tuesday announced that is adding a second destination in Puerto Rico from Tweed New Haven Airport.
Officials with the Houston-based airline said they will begin nonstop service to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico’s Rafael Hernández Airport from Tweed starting on Nov. 19. Avelo will have twice weekly service to Aguadilla on Thursdays and Sundays.
Avelo officials also said it will start flying to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport in late September, replacing flights to that city’s Hobby Airport. The change will begin on Sept. 21 with twice a week service on Mondays and Fridays.
Courtney Goff, an Avelo spokeswoman, said the change in airports was based on travel patterns of passengers once they arrive in Houston.
“We’ve found that most customers going to Houston are either heading to the north side or staying downtown directly,” Goff said. “Bush is more convenient to North Houston while providing a more direct route to downtown.”
Avelo serves 29 destinations nonstop from Tweed-New Haven.
