Following an exciting slate of Week 5 games, two members of Kansas State’s football team have emerged atop the Big 12 in one specific category.
Junior running back DJ Giddens has been sensational this season, with 83 carries for 604 yards. He leads the league in rushing yards but also boasts an impressive 7.27 yards per carry, which would be the Big 12’s best if it weren’t for one of his teammates.
While it’s no secret that Kansas State’s Avery Johnson is one of the nation’s premier dual-threat quarterbacks, he has been remarkable this season. Johnson is the lone quarterback in the Big 12 Conference to throw for more than 800 yards and run for more than 300.
In 2024, Johnson leads the Big 12 Conference with 7.29 yards per carry, narrowly edging past his teammate DJ Giddens. The sophomore signal-caller has carried the football 44 times for 321 yards this season and has found the end zone twice.
Giddens and Johnson help make up one of the nation’s top-ranked rushing attacks, averaging an impressive 252.2 rushing yards per game. The number ranks eighth in the nation and second in the Big 12 Conference behind UCF with 326.
The Wildcats enter their bye week with a 4-1 overall record and a 1-1 record in conference play. They return to action in Week 7 against Colorado on Saturday, October 12th, at 9:15 p.m. CT in Boulder.
