Family friendly Houston restaurant scene of ‘building fire’

One of Houston’s most popular and family friendly restaurants is at the center of an emergency response Sunday. The original of the seven Mia’s Table restaurants in the greater Houston area, located in Upper Kirby, reportedly caught fire Sunday morning.

The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a call at around 11 a.m. Sunday from the Upper Kirby location of Mia’s Table, one of Houston’s favorite family friendly restaurants. The news was first reported by KPRC 2’s Christian Hudspeth.

Meanwhile, a TikTok video from user @jackeline_idalmy on Sunday shows, from a nearby location, smoke emanating from Mia’s table. The location at 3131 Argonne St. is part of the larger “corporate campus” for the restaurant’s owners, Johnny Carrabba Family of Restaurants (JCFR).

According to the City of Houston’s Active Incident Dashboard, seven units responded to the restaurant at Argonne and Branard streets in Upper Kirby for what is being described as a “building fire.” It’s unclear the severity of Sthe incident and if there are any injuries after HFD reported to the scene, though citizens remain advised to avoid the area surrounding the space near Kirby Drive and West Alabama Street.

HFD has yet to respond to a request for more information.

Mia’s Table was created by Johnny Carrabba of the Carrabba’s empire in 2012 as part of JCFR. The restaurant is a casual-dining spot for southern and comfort food with a focus on families, in which patrons order at the counter before taking a number and finding their seat. The Houston-based chain offers one major perk: complimentary soft-serve ice cream for those with room left for dessert.

“At Mia’s Table Bellaire, our focus is simple: serving great comfort food with genuine Southern hospitality in a welcoming, family friendly environment,” general manager John Cahill said upon the opening of the latest Mia’s Table location in Bellaire in February. “While this location already holds a special place in the neighborhood, we’re proud to bring the consistency, care, and heart that guests have come to expect from every Mia’s Table.

Mia’s Table’s Upper Kirby location is the first of the chain’s now-seven locations, and an eighth is planned for Sugar Land by the end of 2027. Per a filing last September with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction on the $2.2 million buildout at 15908 Lexington Blvd. in the Market at Town Center is expected to be completed in December.
