No. 13 BAYLOR (Prev. No. 12)
Previous result: 23-12 loss against No. 11 Utah
Baylor’s technically non-conference matchup against Utah didn’t fall their way, and the team wasn’t able to rally after Rising left the field. The offense was stuffed for the most part, with a touchdown throw from Dequan Finn late marking the only score for the Bears in the end zone. Baylor faced potentially the top team in the Big 12, but even without its team leader on the field, Utah exposed just how far the gap is between Baylor and the top of the league.
No. 14 CINCINNATI (Prev. No. 13)
Previous result: 28-27 loss against Pittsburgh
Cincinnati was primed for a nice win in a non-conference spot in Week 2, but the team collapsed in the fourth quarter to drop a one-point loss to Pitt. The Panthers scored 22 unanswered points, continuously moving down the field as the game came to a close and nailing a 35-yard field goal to take the lead with less than a minute to play. Cincinnati opened up strong, but an ability to sustain kept victory just out of reach.
No. 15 TEXAS TECH (Prev. No. 14)
Previous result: 37-16 loss against Washington State
Texas Tech, just a week out from going into overtime with Abilene Christian, was handled on the road by Washington State. The Cougars never gave up their early lead, holding the Tech offense at bay all game. Quarterback Behren Morton threw a pair of interceptions, and without running back weapon Tahj Brooks available, the offense could never close the gap. Texas Tech’s performance may improve as the team gets its long list of injured players back on the field, but the Red Raiders have their backs against the wall.
No. 16 HOUSTON (Prev. No. 15)
Previous result: 16-12 loss against No. 15 Oklahoma
Houston was a pleasant surprise in Week 2, bringing everything it had against No. 15 Oklahoma in a four-point loss. The team had trouble with some consistency in its offensive attack, but the Cougars showed they could be a team to watch in an upset spot this season.
