BRAINERD — With four test markets selected in the country for a limited run at Jersey Mike’s Subs, the Baxter restaurant made the short list.

Jersey Mike’s stated in a news release that selected Minnesotans were chosen to get a first taste of the new “Mike’s Hot Italian” sub. The sub, with grilled meats, melted cheese and hot chopped pepper relish, is available for a limited time.

Starting in December, Jersey Mike’s offered the new sub in 54 restaurants, including Baxter.

The major test markets are Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, San Diego and Salt Lake City. The sub is described as loaded with ham, salami and pepperoni chopped by hand right on the grill, and covered in melted provolone, Mike’s Hot Italian is topped with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and Jersey Mike’s signature hot chopped pepper relish.

Mike’s Hot Italian sub is available in-store, online or through the Jersey Mike’s app for a limited time. The restaurant, which started in 1956, reports it has more than 4,000 locations open and in development.
