Saturday

Saturday looks like a hit or miss day with a dry start and then an increasing chance for scattered showers later in the day. An unsettled boundary may keep clouds mixing with sunshine at times, and hold off any showers until late. Temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s, the cooler of the two weekend days. I think we’re on the cooler side of a frontal boundary. Notice on the map below dew points are in the 60s to near 70 south of the Mass Pike, but in the 50s to the north. When you see this kind of contrast, it can lead to an unsettled day.

Saturday’s highs will be in the 60s and 70s across parts of New England. A few 80s toward the southwest.Boston Globe

Sunday

Looking toward Sunday, a weather system will be approaching with the center of the storm along the Canadian border and extending a front south through New England. The morning looks to be the driest with clouds breaking for some sunshine. Late in the afternoon or at night, some scattered showers move into the area, but mostly staying north and west of Boston.

Dew points Sunday rise in the upper 60s and lower 70s as warmer and more humid air returns.

There will also be an increase in the humidity and temperatures with readings getting into the 70s and even some lower 80s. Humidity will be going back up again with dew points rising through the 60s.

90 degree weather will be just south of New England on Sunday.

Overnight temperatures will be in the 60s this weekend, a little more comfortable for sleeping. High tide is in the early afternoon also, so if you are headed to the beach, there will be less real estate.

Because of the dynamic nature of the weather systems this weekend, how much sunshine we will ultimately see may vary. Showers on Sunday may hold off long enough for you to enjoy most of the day but that may chance slightly.

Weekend breakdown

Southern New England: Overall the weekend will be somewhat unsettled with a chance of showers this weekend. The highest risk will be Saturday afternoon and again Sunday evening. Temperatures will be warmest west of the coastline. Cooler marine air from the north may infiltrate the beaches on Saturday with temperatures falling back, especially over Essex County.  Look for highs in the 70s at the coast and lower 80s inland Saturday. Sunday will be warmer, with highs in the 80s west of the coastline, 70-75 at the beaches.

Western Mass.: Temperatures will be in the 70s and lower 80s on Saturday. There is a good chance for showers and even storms in the afternoon with some downpours. Highs reach the 80s on Sunday with a chance of more showers and storms.

Cape Cod and Islands: Clouds dominate this weekend with temperatures in the 70s on Saturday and Sunday. Winds will be southwest Saturday. It’s a little breezier on Sunday with a gusty southerly or southwest wind. There is a low risk of showers over the weekend, with most of them staying off the Cape.

Northern New England: Clouds are going to dominate much of the weekend. Temperatures will be in the 60s along the Maine Coast, 70s elsewhere. There could be a few showers.Sunday is a bit milder, but there is still the chance of showers and even a thunderstorm. Highs will be in the 70s and even some 80s over southern Vermont.
