Boston Bruins fans will have another jersey to debate, purchase and potentially add to their rotation during the 2026-27 NHL season. The NHL and Fanatics announced Wednesday that all 32 teams will receive special-edition uniforms as part of the new “Hometown Remix” collection. The leaguewide program also will include apparel and headwear inspired by each market’s fans, city and local culture.

Specific designs were not revealed with the initial announcement. More information is expected to arrive shortly after the 2026-27 season begins, according to the NHL.

Kim Rankin of Boston Bruins On SI highlighted what the announcement means for Boston. Although the Bruins’ new look remains a mystery, the franchise’s rich history gives Fanatics plenty of material from which to draw.

Bruins’ Past Creates Intriguing Possibilities

The “Hometown Remix” collection will be the first leaguewide special-edition uniform program developed by Fanatics since the company became the NHL’s official on-ice uniform supplier before the 2024-25 season. That arrangement could lead to an especially interesting reveal in Boston.

Something new is coming to all 32 NHL cities this season. 👀

The Bruins own one of the NHL’s most recognizable visual identities, with the Spoked-B serving as the franchise’s primary logo for decades. Boston also has used several memorable bear logos, color combinations and shoulder patches that could influence the upcoming design.

The team’s previous “Reverse Retro” jerseys demonstrated how dramatically a classic Bruins look can be reimagined.

Boston’s 2020-21 Reverse Retro uniform featured a yellow base with a black Spoked-B on the chest and a bear patch on the shoulder. It offered a colorful reinterpretation of a white jersey the Bruins wore during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Bruins went in another nostalgic direction for the 2022-23 version. Boston brought back its famous “Pooh Bear” logo on a white jersey that recalled the gold alternate uniform introduced in 1995. Fanatics has not indicated whether the Hometown Remix designs will revive old logos, introduce new ones or combine historical elements with features connected to each city. The collection’s emphasis on local culture, however, gives Bruins fans reason to expect something distinctly Boston.

New Jersey Could Become Immediate Talking Point

Special-edition uniforms frequently generate strong reactions, and Boston is unlikely to be an exception. Some fans will want Fanatics to remain close to the Bruins’ traditional Black and Gold identity. Others might welcome a bolder look featuring a bear logo, vintage striping or another reference to the organization’s history.

The city-centered concept also opens the door for details extending beyond the franchise itself. Boston’s neighborhoods, landmarks, history and passionate hockey culture all could provide inspiration. The NHL described the program as its first special-edition collection to include every team under Fanatics. It will cover authentic on-ice uniforms, replica jerseys and a larger assortment of related merchandise.

That makes the announcement more expansive than a simple alternate-jersey release. Each organization will receive a coordinated collection built around its home market.

Bruins Fans Await Full Reveal

The timing of the announcement gives Boston supporters something else to anticipate as the new season approaches. The Bruins are scheduled to open their campaign Sept. 29 against the New York Rangers at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with ESPN carrying the matchup.

The NHL said additional Hometown Remix details will be released after the season begins. It remains unclear when the Bruins will unveil their design, when they will first wear it or how many games it will appear in. Those answers should arrive soon enough. For now, the biggest question is which part of Bruins history Fanatics will choose to remix.

Boston’s identity offers no shortage of compelling options. If the new collection successfully combines the Bruins’ past with the personality of their home city, the result could become one of the NHL’s most anticipated uniform reveals.
