MIAMI – A 54-year-old burglar cut his way into a Miami food store in order to steal early Friday morning, according to police.

Miami police said it happened at around 1:30 a.m. at the Rossy Supermarket, located at 3445 NW 27th Ave. in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood.

Authorities said Ariel Duvergel broke into the store from a neighboring car dealership and was seen on surveillance video placing several items into a bag.

Duvergel is listed in an arrest report as homeless with a permanent address in the Atlanta suburb of Norcross, Georgia.

The owner of the store, Rosailys Casas, told Local 10 News that she saw the burglary as it was happening through a live video feed and called police, who arrived while Duvergel was still inside the store.

Casas said she had woken up in the middle of the night with a “bad feeling,” leading her to check her cameras.

Police said they were able to coax him out of the business and place him into custody.

“I feel like God was good, God helped me,” Casas told Local 10 News in Spanish. “Thank God this time wasn’t worse.”

Casas said she recognized Duvergel because she believes he was the same suspect in a burglary at the store about three months prior, in which the suspect got away with $10,000.

Duvergel was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on multiple counts of burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft.

Jail records show his bond wasn’t yet set as of Friday afternoon.
