SAN ANTONIO (September 13, 2024) – The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, in collaboration with the San Antonio Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission, invites all to celebrate Fiestas Patrias San Antonio 2024. Enjoy more than 40 events that honor Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1810 and celebrate San Antonio’s rich history and vibrant connections to Mexico and Latin America as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
“This is a time to celebrate the many achievements, contributions, and cultural impact of Hispanic communities,” said District 3 Councilmember and liaison to the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission Phyllis Viagran. “These annual observances also offer a chance to educate newer generations about the significance of this rich historical and cultural exchange.”
In its 30th year, the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission was established in 1994 to develop a collaborative effort to create events in honor of the celebration. San Antonio’s City Council re-established the commission in June 2024, honoring and recognizing its importance. This commission is currently accepting applications for members.
