The Latino Partnership Program awarded $900,000 in grants to Latino-serving nonprofits across Oregon, including $15,000 to both the Latino Community Association in Bend and Better Together Central Oregon in Redmond.
The LPP, founded in 2002, supports education, leadership development and wealth-building in Latino communities. The Latino Community Association focuses on helping people get employment and grow their business. Better Together Central Oregon works to improve educational outcomes for students in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties and the Warm Springs Reservation.
Also in Central Oregon, NeighborImpact, the High Desert Museum, the High Desert Education Service District and NatureConnect Central Oregon got pieces of the pie.
The funds are being doled out as many Latino-facing organizations in the state are dealing with the effects of the federal government’s distinctly aggressive immigration enforcement policies.
“As organizations navigate community concerns and funding uncertainty, flexible general operating support enables them to remain strong,” said LPP senior program officer Mirna Loreli Cibrian.
