TAHLEQUAH — The Cherokee Phoenix is asking Cherokee Nation citizens to send photos of their harvested deer to the newspaper this fall as part of the Cherokee Phoenix Big Deer Contest.
To participate in the contest, hunters can send a photo of themselves with their harvested deer to cherokeephoenix@cherokee.org from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31. Approved submitted photos will be displayed on www.cherokeephoenix.org and the participating hunters will be entered to win one of four $250 gift cards.
To be eligible, hunters must be Cherokee Nation citizens and have harvested their buck or doe according to their local hunting regulations. Participants must submit a picture of themselves with the buck or doe along with a picture of the check-in tag clearly showing the date, time and confirmation number. Only the photo of the hunter with the harvested deer will be published. Photo or screenshot of check-in tag is for verification of legal harvesting only and will not be published.
Email must also contain the name of the individual in the picture; town and state the individual resides; date of harvest; email and phone number; and individual’s date of birth. Contestant’s date of birth will not be published but is used for Cherokee Nation citizenship verification only. Only name and hometown and state will be published with the photo.
A full list of contest rules can be found at www.cherokeephoenix.org/big_deer_contest/.
The random prize drawing will be held after the contest concludes and announced on the Cherokee Phoenix’s Facebook page.
