The Chicago Bears are releasing former first-round offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wills was in contention for the starting left tackle job.
The Bears signed Wills earlier in the offseason as added competition for the offensive line. A former first-round pick back in 2020, Wills spent four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Injuries derailed his career, however, causing him to miss the 2025 season as he worked his way back into form.
Wills was competing with incumbent tackles Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie, and Theo Benedet for the starting left tackle job in the wake of Ozzy Trapilo’s serious injury suffered during last postseason. Wills couldn’t regain his early-career form, however, and struggled throughout camp. He didn’t play during Saturday’s preseason finale win over the Tennessee Titans.
