City of San Antonio to Host National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government Summer Conference

SAN ANTONIO (May 1, 2025) – This year, the City of San Antonio will host the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) Summer Conference, taking place May 28–30, 2025.

Under the leadership of the current WIMG President, City of San Antonio Councilmember Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, this premier convening will bring together women from across the country serving in local government to connect, network and explore solutions to the challenges facing cities, towns and villages — shaping stronger, more resilient communities for the future.

“Welcoming women municipal leaders from across the country to my hometown is an honor and rare opportunity to showcase all that makes our remarkable city a place of immense opportunities for all,” stated the District 4 Councilmember. “We will be highlighting local initatives like Pre-K 4 SA, Ready to Work, and the City’s first affordable housing bond, as well as the innovative collaboration needed for these community investments.”

Local leaders in attendance can expect two days of immersive programming, including:

  • In-depth workshops and interactive sessions on policy and advocacy
  • Peer-led discussions with female elected officials and statewide leaders
  • Leadership-building activities and networking opportunities

Attendees will also participate in mobile tours, visit a signature project site in San Antonio to experience a program providing transformative services for residents firsthand, and engage with the next generation of leaders at the City of San Antonio Girls Empowerment Summit through collaborative sessions.

“We are thrilled to host the women leaders of our nation’s cities as we navigate an ever-changing state and federal landscape,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “I want to thank Councilmember Dr. Rocha Garcia for her strong leadership, National League of Cities representation, and continued advocacy of policies that will materially benefit all of our lives.”

Conference programming will center around several key areas impacting women in local government, including youth empowerment and the pipeline of future women leaders, workforce development, civility in public service and expanding access to resources for families and older residents.

WIMG is one of six constituency groups within the National League of Cities, serving as a forum for communication and networking among women local elected officials.
