NCAA Sanctions Expire

On June 22, 2023 Coach Will Wade was given a 10-game suspension and a 2-year show cause order.

According to the former NCAA infractions body, the IRP, while head coach at LSU Wade “committed multiple violations, including failing to report potential NCAA violations, providing impermissible cash payments to impede disclosure of information of potential NCAA violations in contradiction to NCAA unethical conduct legislation, and failing to cooperate with the infractions investigation.” The hearing panel also found that the former head men’s basketball coach “violated the head coach responsibility rules by failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the men’s basketball program.”

Coach Wade served his 10-game suspension at the beginning of the ’23-’24 season while at McNeese State. (Fun Fact: Our own Coach Chambers and Coach Hamilton coached the team in Wade’s absence, and they went 8-2)

Specific prohibitions included in the two-year show-cause order against Wade:

  • No off-campus recruiting related activities during any applicable April or summer evaluation and/or contact period
  • Reduction in official visits by four each during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years
  • No recruiting conversations between Sept. 1, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2023, and Sept. 1, 2024, and Oct. 15, 2024
  • No unofficial visits from Sept. 1, 2023, through Oct. 15, 2023, and Sept. 1, 2024, and Oct. 15, 2024
  • Suspension from the first 10 contests of the first season of any Division I employment, which shall not include exhibitions or practice scrimmages

The NCAA sanctions are now complete. He’s paid the price, he’s honorably served his ‘sentence’, let’s not talk about it anymore. Let’s talk about NC STATE BASKETBALL and look forward to hanging banners and picking up an ACC COY or two.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) visits Thursday, November 13

Former NC State basketball player Andy Kennedy returns to Raleigh leading his alma mater against the best coach NC State has had since his Wolfpack coach, Jim Valvano. In the 1986-1987 season Kennedy was one of the Wolfpack’s four Parade All-Americans, along with Charles (“The Original Shack”) Shackleford, Mike Giomi, and Walker Lambiotte. There were some other pretty good players on that team including Vinny Del Negro, Kenny Drummond, Chucky Brown, Kelsey Weems, Quinton Jackson and Avie Lester. Kennedy transferred from NC State to UAB after one season and finished his college career there. In 2022, Kennedy was inducted into the UAB Sports Hall of Fame

Coach Kennedy is in his 18th year of coaching, this is his fifth season coaching UAB. Kennedy’s ’24-’25 team finished 24-13 / 13-5, 3rd in the AAC. They made it to the quarterfinals of the NIT. However, they’ve done a near complete housecleaning since then, next season’s team is a work in progress.

Opening Night (11/5) Opponent – NC Central?

According to sources, NC State is finalizing a deal to host NC Central and LeVelle Moton in the home opener to open the Will Wade era inside the Lenovo Center.
