A local coffee company now owns Emporium Pies, the dessert shop that got its start in a small house in Bishop Arts in 2012.

White Rhino Coffee bought the pie business and its four locations, and the company plans to open more, according to a news release about the acquisition.

“Emporium Pies has built an extraordinary legacy,” Sara Escamilla, CEO of White Rhino Coffee, said in a statement. “Their products are consistently excellent, impeccably crafted, and beloved. Every pie is made with the highest quality ingredients. To be able to support and grow a concept of this caliber is an honor.”

White Rhino Coffee now owns Emporium Pies, and eventually the two will integrate their menus.

Emporium Pies was started by Megan Wilkes and Mary Sparks initially as a pop-up, but it became a brick-and-mortar destination for pie lovers and grew to four locations.

In 2022, Wilkes and Sparks sold the business to sisters Landon Perdue, Jen Abohosh and Addie Roberts who said their goal was business as usual.

The latest sale to White Rhino Coffee means the pie shop will stay a majority women-owned business, and eventually will expand in Dallas-Fort Worth.

White Rhino Coffee, which Chris Parvin first opened in Cedar Hill in 2007, has more than a dozen locations across North Texas.

Although under new ownership, former owner Addie Roberts will stay on staff along with the team of bakers, the release said.

For now, everything will stay the same, but menu integrations and pie and coffee pairings will come in time, White Rhino Coffee ownership said.
