Drew Mestemaker says seeing himself in EA SPORTS College Football 27 is ‘really cool’
Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker has gone from walk-on to breakout star at North Texas to being able to see himself in a video game with the Cowboys.
College Football 27 got another title update Wednesday, July 23. Unfortunately for EA Sports, the patch is unlikely to stem the tide of players upset over the generally popular video game.
The third installment of the Orlando-based studio’s revived college football franchise has received largely positive reviews as far as gameplay goes. But of the more than 1,600 reviews on Steam, less than 40% are positive. Many of those negative reviews stemmed from CFB 27’s introductions to microtransactions in offline Dynasty and Road to Glory, single-player modes that were big favorites among passionate gamers before progression was capped by how much players were willing to pay for upgrades.
The movement spurred on by streamer James Bordeaux got EA to take the microtransactions off of those modes, but the company insisted that the experience sliders, which players could use to ease the rate at which their players and coaches could improve, could not return because of the changes made to CFB 27. That’s made Bordeaux declare he’s given up on the studio’s future with regards to listening to the customers’ interests, as he explained on the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast July 22.
“I don’t believe in the direction the games are going,” Bordeaux said. “And with every statement they put out, I felt more and more justified in that decision because they continued to just basically double down and say, ‘We don’t care,’ and I don’t want to be tied to anything if they continue to make things worse.”

EA Sports College Football update today
EA Sports didn’t have many major changes in its latest title update. Here’s what it said it fixed:
- Gameplay: Addressed issues were switch stick input could be delayed and defensive formation packages could reset during hurry-up.
- Road to Glory: Fully resolved an issue that could prevent edge players from triggering position battles and resolved an issue that could prevent cap breakers from being used, with additional stability fixes and UI improvements.
- Dynasty: Improved CPU team NIL allocation logic and updated the risk of leaving bar to properly reflect contract specialist support staff, alongside stability improvements.
When does CFB 27 come out?
The game is out now for all players after its worldwide release Thursday, July 9. Those with an MVP+ membership with EA Sports received access a week earlier, July 2.
