College Football Playoff predictions: Quarterfinal games
Cotton Bowl: No. 2 Ohio State vs No. 10 Miami, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 5:30 p.m., ESPN (stream with FUBO)
Miami’s defense really impressed in its 10-3 win over Texas A&M. Can the Hurricanes also shut down Ohio State? Don’t count on it. The Buckeyes have too many weapons. The defending champions will punch the first ticket into the CFP semifinals.
Prediction: Ohio State 27, Miami 17
College Football Playoff schedule: Miami vs Ohio State | Oregon vs Texas Tech | Alabama vs Indiana | Ole Miss vs Georgia | TV channels
Orange Bowl: No. 4 Texas Tech vs No. 5 Oregon, Thursday, Jan. 1, 10 a.m., ESPN (stream with FUBO)
Oregon opened as a slight favorite over Texas Tech. Can the Big 12 champions pull off the upset over the Ducks? Yes, they can. The Red Raiders‘ defense will make some big plays in the second half to help Texas Tech hold off Oregon in a CFP thriller.
Prediction: Texas Tech 27, Oregon 24
Rose Bowl: No. 1 Indiana vs No. 9 Alabama, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2 p.m., ESPN (stream with FUBO)
We think this game could be a lot closer than the early line indicated. The Crimson Tide may not pull off the upset, but we think Alabama could keep this game really close, especially if points come at a premium. Fernando Mendoza could be the difference late.
Prediction: Indiana 24, Alabama 20
Sugar Bowl: No. 3 Georgia vs No. 6 Ole Miss, Thursday, Jan. 1, 6 p.m., ESPN (stream with FUBO)
On Oct. 18, Georgia beat Ole Miss, 43-35, in the Rebels’ lone loss of the season. Georgia outscored Ole Miss in the fourth quarter, 17-0. Georgia opened as a touchdown favorite in this game, but that doesn’t matter. Trinidad Chambliss and Mississippi will pull off the CFP upset.
Prediction: Ole Miss 31, Georgia 27
