It would appear another Colorado steakhouse is planning to open up shop in the Houston area. A permit recently filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows an “A5 Steakhouse” is slated to open in Downtown Houston’s Texas Tower.
The permit details the “A5 Steakhouse” moving into the first floor of the Houston Chronicle’s former headquarters at 845 Texas Ave., St. 125. The permit, which was filed on Wednesday, calls for an estimated $5.7-million renovation/alteration of a 6,582-square-foot space. For some reason, the construction’s start date was listed as Jan. 8 of this year. It’s expected to finish by May 28, 2027.
Meanwhile, real estate brokerage SHOP Companies, which offers space inside Texas Tower, shows the Denver-based A5 Steakhouse as a tenant on a floor plan of the skyscraper.
Neither the Denver A5 Steakhouse nor SHOP Companies have yet responded to Chron’s request for more information.
Denver hospitality group The Culinary Creative opened A5 Steakhouse in November 2021. The restaurant puts a big emphasis on the origin of its beef. A5 lists some notable ranches as providers, including Creekstone Farms in Kansas and Strube Ranch in Texas. The menu is an interesting zigzag between Asian and French fare: Japanese milk bread rolls, mac and cheese croquettes, and Thai chile and bordelaise sauces.
Eagle-eyed Houston foodies might remember this was supposed to be where Benjamin Berg’s Dune Road was supposed to go. Berg Hospitality Group announced the upscale, New England-inspired restaurant in 2023, then opened the Sylvie in Texas Tower in 2024. Atlas Restaurant Group, the Baltimore outfit which also operates Marmo and Azumi, took over the restaurant in 2026.
It’s the second Denver steakhouse inside Houston. The first was Troy Guard’s Guard and Grace, located inside the C. Baldwin Hotel.
