LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man from Mexico City’s dream is now an immersive experience through Mexican culture.

Inside Colors of Mexico, people are transported thousands of miles away. From Dia de Los Muertos altars to ancient pyramids and alebrijes, each room tells the story of Mexico’s history and traditions.

“There was a huge opportunity here, Vegas, everything is about fun, everything is about colors, everything is about different, different cultures and countries, so we thought that Vegas was perfect for this,” said owner Ricardo Lopez-Franco.

Lopez-Franco said starting this business was personal to him, born in Mexico City, he dreamed of bringing the richness of his culture to Las Vegas and making it succeed in one of the most competitive cities in the world.

“Coming to the U.S. is the American dream. In this case, we like to keep both. I think there’s a really great synergy between both countries and it’s really cool to have a little bit of both worlds here,” he said.

Lopez-Franco explained this place has become a cultural touchstone. Especially for families who haven’t been able to go back to Mexico in years. For many walking through the rooms stirs up nostalgia and pride.

“Just to pick the themes for the seven rooms was a challenge because there’s 7,000 different stories.”

While the colors and lights grab visitor’s attention, Lopez-Franco said his goal is to tackle misconceptions, to show a Mexico that’s modern and full of life.

“When you’re watching a movie, when you cross the border, they change it to that almost black and white filter and sometimes talking to people, I mean, we have people heard that said, ‘oh, this is not Mexico.’ Yeah, it is Mexico,” he said.

Colors of Mexico is already preparing for October when all their rooms will be transformed into a celebration for Dia de Los Muertos.
