PHOENIX – The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Scottsdale will be home to the first Costco on U.S. tribal land.

SRPMIC and developer Mullin 360 unveiled a deal Friday for a new warehouse retail store at 4499 N. Pima Road, where Camelback Road ends just east of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway.

The new store will fill a 162,000-square-foot building to be built on 21.5 acres just north of the Scottsdale Auto Show at Salt River, a massive auto mall that Mullin 360 developed with the tribe over the last decade.

“The continued growth along the Loop 101 corridor reflects the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s long-term commitment to strategic development that benefits our community and the broader Valley,” SRPMIC President Martin Harvier said in a press release. “Welcoming a retailer as respected and impactful as Costco is another milestone that will bring jobs, services and meaningful economic returns that support our tribal members for generations.”

First Costco on tribal land will have sushi counters, food court

The new warehouse club will have nearly 1,000 parking spaces and offer Costco members an expanded section of ready-to-eat meals. There will also be in-store sushi counters and a food court where shoppers can purchase calzones, chicken Caesar salads, chocolate chunk cookies, smoothies and cold brew drinks. And of course, Costco’s signature hot dog and drink combo will be on the menu.

“We are incredibly proud to begin work on this new Costco location. Costco is one of the most popular and impactful retailers in the last 100 years, and this development is further ratification of the incredible momentum SRPMIC has brought to the Loop 101 Salt River Corridor,” Mullin 360 CEO Jim Mullin said in the release.

Construction is expected to begin in June. There was no estimated time for completion.

Local residents and businesses with questions about the project can call a hotline at 480-362-7727 or send inquiries to SRAS@srpmic-nsn.gov.
