We’re just hours away from the start of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, and multiple matches are happening right here in Omaha. Creighton plays host Thursday as they look for a first round victory in the DJ Sokol arena. So, let’s take a look at who will be playing in the first day of the tournament: Unranked Ole Miss plays seventh seed Florida State at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, then at 7 p.m., unranked South Dakota will face No. 2 seed Creighton.Bluejays head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth is optimistic that they can pull off a win because they’ve put in the work. “I approach each match pretty similarly. Our staff will prepare like we prepare for every match. We won’t do anything really different than we normally do. It’s business. We got to go play great volleyball, and we need to be ready to go. Everyone’s good, and we know that. And it’s a fun time of year,” said Coach Booth.Booth says she knows some of the South Dakota players well, as many of them are from Nebraska, and she’s excited to play them in the first round. Creighton’s senior outside hitter Norah Sis says, they’ve been waiting for this moment since last December. She says getting to see court time in the Big East Tournament has been especially helpful in prepping the team.”It definitely brings a new pressure, but we were talking as a team that it is nice that we are able to compete in the Big East Tournament, not every league has a tournament,” said Sis. “That little extra pressure of ‘win or go home’ just this last week will definitely, I think, be good going into the tournament.” The winners of the games will face off at 7 p.m. Friday for the second round. The sites for the regional matchups, will be announced Dec. 8, and our sports team will keep you updated as the tournament begins.
