The Chicago Cubs will look to break out of their recent funk when they battle the Cincinnati Reds in National League Central action on Friday. Chicago has lost seven of eight, while Cincinnati has won four of its last six games. The Reds (24-32), who are 2-4 against divisional foes this season, are 17-21 against right-handed starters. The Cubs (28-29), 6-10 against the Central, are 24-22 against right-handers.

The game is slated to begin at 2:20 p.m. ET from Wrigley Field in Chicago. Javier Assad (4-1, 2.17 ERA) is on the hill for Chicago and he’ll be backed by an offense that ranks 14th in Major League Baseball in runs scored (244). Center fielder Cody Bellinger has been on fire of late. In the four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, he was 8-for-18 with two doubles, one home run and three RBI. He has hits in each of his last six games, including five games with multi hits. In 43 games this season, he is batting .267 with nine doubles, one triple, eight homers, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored. Right fielder Seiya Suzuki is also on a hot streak, with hits in each of his last seven games. In Thursday’s loss to the Brewers, he was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBI. He was 2-for-5 with a stolen base on Wednesday night. In 32 games this year, he is hitting .258 with five doubles, five homers and 18 RBI. Right-hander Graham Ashcraft (4-3, 4.67 ERA) will start for Cincinnati. In 10 starts this season, he has logged 54 innings of work, allowing 59 hits, 28 earned runs and 19 walks, while striking out 43. In his last outing, a 9-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, he earned the victory while working 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and one walk, while striking out three. In his start prior, he took the loss in a 4-0 decision against the Dodgers on May 18, but allowed just three earned runs on three hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Among the Reds’ top hitters is shortstop Elly De La Cruz. In 56 games this season, he is hitting .249 with 10 doubles, one triple, nine homers and 24 RBI with 37 runs scored. He is coming off a 2-for-5 performance in Wednesday’s loss to St. Louis.
