UNIVERSITY PARK — Smart farming tools and technologies potentially could transform modern dairy operations by enhancing productivity, improving animal health and lowering costs.

To explore these ideas, a Penn State Extension workshop, “Milking the Data: What Drives Technology Adoption on Farms,” will be June 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, 215 Innovation Blvd., State College.

This workshop is aimed at dairy farmers, calf and herd managers, dairy advisors, and veterinarians.

The session will cover:

• Why some technologies are adopted while others are not.

• Real-world benefits and barriers to adopting agricultural technology.

• How edge intelligence can support farm goals.

• What’s next in farmer-driven innovation.

Organizers said they want to hear directly from farmers about why they choose to adopt — or not adopt — technologies for managing cattle. They will host a discussion to gather farmers’ insights and perspectives.

This event is part of a multi-institutional planning effort supported by the National Science Foundation.

Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge, but organizers ask that participants register by 9:30 a.m. June 11.

More information is available on the Penn State Extension website at https://extension.psu.edu/milkingthedata25.
