The woman accusing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott of sexual assault has opted to drop her lawsuit in Dallas County and has decided to pursue the case in Collin County instead.
Legal maneuvering doesn’t mean Prescott is out of trouble
Documents filed in Dallas County revealed that the accuser’s attorney submitted a request for a “non-suit without prejudice,” indicating a voluntary withdrawal from the case with the option to re-file in the future.
Yoel Zehaie, representing the accuser, clarified that this action was taken to relocate the legal proceedings for convenience, aligning with Prescott’s countersuit in Collin County alleging extortion.
In response to the developments, Prescott’s attorney, Levi McCathern, reiterated the quarterback’s denial of the allegations.
McCathern emphasized Prescott’s commitment to defending himself against what he deemed as false accusations, labeling the situation as part of an ongoing extortion plot.
The lawsuit stems from accusations made by the woman against Prescott, alleging sexual assault in a strip club parking lot in 2017.
She is asking for $100,000,000 in compensation.
Despite Prescott’s denial of the claims, the legal battle has escalated, with both parties taking legal action against each other.
Prescott’s contract negotiations amidst legal battle
The timing of these legal proceedings coincides with ongoing negotiations between Prescott and the Cowboys regarding a contract extension.
While the legal battle unfolds, talks of a long-term deal between the quarterback and the team have been described as “pretty passive” by sources close to the negotiations.
Prescott’s situation highlights broader contractual challenges faced by the Cowboys, with key players like CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons also embroiled in contract discussions.
Cowboys’ owner and GM Jerry Jones’ approach to contract negotiations has come under scrutiny, raising questions about their ability to secure key players for the long term.
As the legal and contractual saga continues, both Prescott and the Cowboys find themselves at a crossroads.
The outcome of the legal battle and the resolution of contract negotiations will undoubtedly shape the future of both parties involved.
