Game Preview: Dallas Wings at New York Liberty — August 5

Tue, Aug 5, 2025, 1:00 AM

Arlington, TX (Aug. 4, 2025) – After four consecutive home games, the Dallas Wings return to the road on Tuesday to visit the New York Liberty in the first of two games this week against the reigning WNBA Champions. Tipoff at Barclays Center is slated for 6 p.m. CT, with the game airing locally in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on KFAA29. Ron Thulin and Fran Harris will have the call.

The Wings (8-21) are coming off an 88-78 setback to the Indiana Fever on Friday at American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas. Recently announced WNBA Rookie of the Month (June, July) Paige Bueckers notched her third consecutive 20-point game with a team-high 22. New York (18-10) ended its four-game losing skid with an 87-78 win at the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Sabrina Ionescu had 36 points.

The Wings defeated the New York Liberty 92-82 at College Park Center last Monday night behind a historic night from Arike Ogunbowale. In front of a national audience on ESPN, Ogunbowale recorded 20 points along with a career and franchise high of 14 assists, tying the single-game assist record set by Ivory Latta in 2012. The guard tallied 15 points and 10 assists in the first half alone, becoming just the third player in league history to record a points-assists double-double in a single half, first to do so in franchise history, and marking the fifth points-assists double-double of her career. Ogunbowale became the first player this season and second in franchise history to record a game with 20+ points, 10+ assists with just one turnover.

Notable Storylines

Wings Make Pre-Deadline Trade… The Dallas Wings traded DiJonai Carrington to the Minnesota Lynx, the teams announced on Sunday. The Wings received third-year forward Diamond Miller, seventh-year guard Karlie Samuelson and Minnesota’s 2027 WNBA Draft Second Round pick. In order to complete the trade, the Wings waived Teaira McCowan. On Monday evening, the Wings waived Samuelson. Dallas has committed to lead Samuelson’s rehab and recovery into the offseason after she underwent surgery on her left foot in July.

Get To Know Diamond… Diamond Miller was the No. 2 overall pick by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2023 WNBA Draft. The 6-3 forward garnered WNBA All-Rookie Team honors after finishing second in scoring (12.1 ppg), fifth in rebounding (3.5 rpg) and second in assists (2.5 apg) among all newcomers. In 2025, Miller leads all forwards in three-point shooting, making 53.8-percent of her attempts from deep. She has appeared in 25 games this season, averaging 4.1 points while shooting .476 overall.

Bueckers Repeats As Top Rookie… For the second consecutive month, Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers has been named WNBA Rookie of the Month, earning the top nod for July. Bueckers becomes the fourth player in franchise history to earn Rookie of the Month honors twice and is the only multi-time honoree this year. For both the month of July and overall, Bueckers is the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top 10 in points, assists and steals per game. She averaged monthly team highs of 18.2 points (9th), 5.2 assists (10th) and 1.8 steals (4th).

Wings Set Second Attendance Standard… The Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever played in front of 17,857 fans on Friday night at American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas. It marked the second-highest regular-season attendance in franchise history. The Wings recorded the top regular-season attendance in franchise history just over a month ago at AAC against the Fever with a crowd of 20,409 on June 27.
