Denver will be conducting outdoor siren tests Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The tests, which will last for three minutes, are to “ensure alert and warning systems within the city are fully functioning,” Denver’s Office of Emergency Management said on X. No action for the public is required.

The city installed the sirens between 2012 and 2014 and there are 86 around Denver, including 75 in the city and 11 at Denver International Airport. Until last year, they were mainly used for tornado warnings but now can used for other events such as tornados, flooding, wildfires or hazmat situations.

In the case of a real siren, people are encouraged to take shelter immediately and tune to the news for further information.

Tomorrow, May 8th, at 11 a.m. the city will be conducting a live outdoors siren test! This test is to ensure alert and warning systems within the city are fully functioning. No action is required for this test!#DenverListo #DenverReady #Sirentest2024 #JustATest pic.twitter.com/ot2ri5U4P8
