Yesterday, at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ annual conference in Colorado, the Department of State recognized 50 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) as “2024 Fulbright HSI Leaders” for their notable engagement with the Fulbright Program during the 2023-2024 academic year.
The 50 Fulbright HSI Leaders recognized include seven associates colleges, five baccalaureate colleges, two special focus institutions, 10 master’s colleges and universities, and 28 doctoral universities. The full list of 2024 Fulbright HSI Leaders is found on the Fulbright Program website.
As the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, the Fulbright Program aims to build lasting connections between Americans and people of other countries. Having strong HSI participation in the Fulbright Program is critical to fully represent the diversity and excellence of higher education in the United States. The Department of State has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), a membership organization which includes HSIs that enroll about two-thirds of Hispanic students across higher education institutions in the United States, in part to increase the awareness of and participation by the Hispanic community of the United States in the Fulbright Program and in other exchange programs supported by the U.S. Department of State.
In addition to HACU, Fulbright works with organizations such as Diversity Abroad, the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange, UNCF, and the White House Initiative on HBCUs, among others, to share information about Fulbright opportunities.
