As temperatures rise, some Houstonians are looking for ways to escape the heat. Discovery Green is the perfect cool-down place for residents because of its shaded trails and splash pads.
Cesar Duque and his family recently traveled to Houston from Orlando and were shocked by the high temperatures. He said they went to the park to pass the time and cool off before heading back home.
“I have some friends that are from here. They told me that usually it is hot but not this hot,” Duque said. “I’m just enjoying the park though it’s beautiful.”
The hot weather brought many daycare groups out to the splash pads. Atavia Banks took her students to enjoy the water fountains. She says that it’s important to keep children safe while playing in the sun.
“Hydration… all day, staying filled with liquids, and taking a break, getting into the shade when you have the time, ” Banks said. “I’ve been here all my life so it’s always hot during summertime, so you just gotta prepare for it.”
Kyah Parisian makes snow cones for people who prefer to cool down with sweet treats. Despite the heat, she finds ways to keep herself cool while working.
“I have my AC on full blast right now, I’m wearing shorts, and it’s good that I work with ice because it pretty much keeps me cool throughout the day.”
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 108 degrees, and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning until Wednesday.
