WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative is hosting an event called Día del Baile, or the Day of Dance. It’s all about celebrating Hispanic culture and bringing infectious rhythms to summer nights here in Wichita Falls.

Dance Director Roger Palma shared that Día del Baile is a stage for students to showcase every dance move they have mastered. He said the event draws together local talent, dance groups, and instructors from across the city, including a fiery flamenco dancer and a vibrant Colombian salsa artist.

Since 2015, the Zavala International Dance Organization has brought rhythm and energy to Wichita Falls. Now, their third Día del Baile event invites everyone to experience vibrant dance techniques and cherished traditional dances.

“The beauty of dancing is that you can do different styles. How the Latino culture influences a lot of different types of dances, we will have our salsa, flamenco, folklorico, we’re also going to have ballet, and hip hop, all basically Latino-rooted,” Palma said.

Palma said the Día del Baile will feature engaging classes open to the whole community. Such as flamenco, salsa, bachata, and line dancing, each class offers a taste of cultures from different places. He encourages everyone to join in and celebrate the talent in our community.

“We basically perform folklorico, in traditional dresses, traditional head pieces, some older songs, and they showcase, and they tell a story, they tell who we are, it also tells us the beauty of working in being inclusive,” Palma said.

I also spoke with Palma in Spanish.

“Vamos a echar diferentes bailes.

The event takes place this Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the forum. For more information, you can click here.
