DENVER (KDVR) — With large hailstorms and Denver hitting 90 degrees for the first time this season, the past week in Colorado seemed to mark the start of summer. Despite the ever-changing weather, there was still a chance for some breaking news.
There’s a lot to catch up on if you missed the news this week, from a famous singer dropping out of a tour to Denver installing new license plate readers.

Last Thursday night, a spring Colorado hailstorm dropped stones ranging from the size of a quarter to as big as a baseball. The hail damaged windshields and flooded streets at the end of last week.
Question 2: This national team played a friendly match in Denver leading into the Olympics.
The U.S. women’s national soccer team debuted with new coach Emma Hayes in a 4-0 win over South Korea at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday. The teams will meet again Tuesday in a friendly in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Question 3: This singer canceled her tour, including a stop in Denver.
Jennifer Lopez canceled her “This Is Me … Live” summer tour, including a stop at Denver’s Ball Arena in late July. Lopez said she wanted to take time off with her friends and family.
Question 4: These two football teams earned a primetime spot on TV in September.
Colorado State University and the University of Colorado will face each other again on a primetime spot in September. Last year, the Rocky Mountain Showdown gained a primetime spot, which was ESPN’s fifth most-watched college football game. The game registered 9.3 million viewers and viewership peaked at 11.1 million just before halftime.
Question 5: When is Colorado’s Primary Election Day?
Ballots were mailed for the Colorado’s primary election on Monday. June 17 marks the last day you can return your ballot by mail while June 25 is the last day to vote in person on Colorado’s Primary Election Day.
Question 6: Why did a Southwest plane have to make an emergency landing at DIA on Monday?
A Southwest flight had to make an emergency landing at Denver International Airport after one of the tires failed during takeoff. The plane landed without incident, but passengers were “crying and screaming” on the plane.
Question 7: Colorado Parks and Wildlife removed how many more invasive carp from an Arvada pond on Monday?
In mid-May, aquatic biologists with CPW found 14 invasive bighead carp in the pond at Jack B. Tomlinson Park. On Monday, CPW returned to the pond to search for more carp and found 57 additional carp.
Question 8: How many 100-degree days does the Pinpoint Weather team predict Denver will have this year?
Based on the National Weather Service forecast outlook for this summer, Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels believes that it’s very likely Denver will at least have one day, and possibly two, above 100 degrees. That said, some years are hotter than others. For example, the city did not see 100 degrees last year. But in 2012 the city hit over 100 degrees 13 times over the summer season.
Question 9: How many Broncos players have been arrested since 2000?
FlashPicks compiled a list of the number of players arrested while on an NFL team. In total, there were 1,075 arrests among NFL players since 2000, and Broncos players accounted for 56 of those arrests.
Question 10: Why is the city of Denver installing license plate readers?
Over 100 license plate readers will be installed by mid-June in an effort to crack down on auto theft. The Denver Police Department says these readers have already led to success stories by helping track suspects and stolen vehicles.
