Dolphins rework deal for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick have agreed to a revised contract that includes a $16.245 million signing bonus.

No additional years were added to the deal, and Fitzpatrick had no guaranteed money remaining on the original contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed in a post on social media platform X on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick was reacquired by Miami in an offseason trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers that sent tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh.

“We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi-year extension,” wrote Fitzpatrick’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Schefter said the conversion saves the Dolphins $11 million against this year’s salary cap.

Fitzpatrick made an early impact at training camp Saturday by recording the team’s first interception.

He made a leaping grab on a deep throw from quarterback Zach Wilson intended for wide receiver Tahj Washington.

Fitzpatrick was swarmed by teammates after the highlight-reel play, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

With added cap space, the Dolphins have a few options — especially with reports that defensive tackle Zach Sieler is seeking a new deal.

One possibility: a reunion with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who was released by the Raiders earlier this week.
