Don’t sleep on this common thread between Miami Dolphins extension candidates as more potential deals linger

There’s a common thread between De’Von Achane and one of the Miami Dolphins’ other extension candidates that could help business get done.

The Miami Dolphins’ offseason execution has been productive despite what is going to be a record-setting mark for dead cap in 2026. The Dolphins have been able to execute a re-stock of the roster, find a new quarterback, and load up on draft picks despite nearly $180 million in cap charges for players not on the roster this season.

They’ve also shown that big-money extensions for their building blocks are possible, too. Running back De’Von Achane became the first to get his new contract with Miami. He signed a 4-year, $64 million extension with the Dolphins last week. But with two other potential big extensions possible for LB Jordyn Brooks and C Aaron Brewer, the Achane development is a good omen in more ways than one. Don’t sleep on one common thread between the Dolphins’ lingering extension candidates and the big deals Miami has already given out this offseason.

The Miami Dolphins have already got big deals done this offseason with both agencies that represent Jordyn Brooks & Aaron Brewer

No one really ever knows how a new regime is going to handle business and extension talks. But once you show the ability to get a deal done with someone, it’s an encouraging development for future talks between the parties involved.

The Miami Dolphins have already gotten a deal done with the agencies that rep both Brooks and Brewer this offseason. That should be good news for all involved — the ice is broken. The Dolphins have given out two big contracts this offseason: one to Achane and the other to QB Malik Willis.

Achane is represented by Leah Knight of Roc Nation Sports. Erik Burkhardt, who Brooks’ agent, joined Roc Nation Sports as the co-head of their football department in 2022. So the Dolphins have already secured a contract extension (Achane) with the agency that reps Brooks. That’s a good sign!

They’ve also got a deal done with Brewer’s network of representation, too. Quarterback Malik Willis is represented by perhaps the best agent in the game right now, David Mulugheta of Athletes First. Aaron Brewer is also a member of the Athletes First portfolio — he’s repped by Kyle McCarthy of the same agency.

It’s not the same…but it is notable

Every negotiation and situation is different. The agents themselves are not even the same. But the family and network of agents have common ground. There’s been successful business conducted with both groups already in just the last three months. Not many reps can say that about their relationship with the 2026 Miami Dolphins and their new leadership. Big deals have been few and far between.

The fact that the two lingering extension candidates just so happen to be represented by Athletes First and Roc Nation Sports, Miami’s two successful negotiation partners this offseason, is notable. The more common ground you have in these talks, the better. And since the history between the parties involved is already good — it’s a small but promising layer to the hopes that Brewer and Brooks also get deals of their own this summer.
