DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team will raise its 2026 NCAA National Championship banner to the rafters of Magness Arena prior to its official home opener against the Michigan Wolverines on Friday, Oct. 16.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. MT, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to not miss a moment of re-living the Pioneers’ championship run and watch the 11th title banner be lifted. Huntington Bank is the presenting sponsor of the 2026 mini banners and will provide a limited number of replica banners to fans on a first-come, first-served basis.
The best way for fans to secure their tickets for the banner-raising night, two-game series against Michigan and more matchups this year are by purchasing five-game mini plans. DU extended its NCAA record with its 11th national title with a 2-1 win against Wisconsin on April 13 in Las Vegas. The Pioneers defeated the Wolverines 4-3 in double-overtime on April 9 in the Frozen Four Semifinals. DU also beat UM in the 2022 Frozen Four in Boston by a 3-2 score in overtime.
Denver and Michigan will be playing in the regular season for the first time since the two programs were members of the old Western Collegiate Hockey Association; the teams last met in Denver on March 5 and 7, 1981 at the old DU Arena. The Wolverines own the second-most national championships in college hockey behind Denver with nine.
DU’s 2026 banner raising night is the first of several annual featured nights during the Pioneers’ 2026-27 championship-defense campaign, which includes a two-game series versus Boston College on Homecoming Weekend the following week on Oct. 23-24.
