Winding up Wednesday
Mar. 20 — It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on Dunwoody. So much going on the city, with new businesses (Good Vibes, Cuddlefish, and Steak & Grace) opening its doors, and some major players deciding to expand into the Atlanta area (TriNet).
Spring also signals the beginning of my personal mediocre sports season, which includes being the fourth-best player on our four-person Cornhole team and a clumsy pickleball partner who gets the yips every time I try to serve from the left side. I’m also pretty bad at playing cards, riding a stationary bike, and walking a straight line.
🌸 Have a wobbly Wednesday,
Cathy

Big company decides to ‘Tri’ Dunwoody
☕ Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch, at a State of Dunwoody address at March 18’s Perimeter Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting, delivered more than good news about the city – she announced the expansion of a major corporation that will have a multi-million dollar impact for the region.
Minutes later, Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp publicly announced that TriNet, a provider of human resource solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, will establish a new corporate center in Dunwoody’s Perimeter District.
The expansion will create 750 new jobs over the next five years and represent an estimated $15.4 million investment in DeKalb County, Kemp said in a statement released by TriNet.

🏡 Most Fulton and DeKalb County homeowners are aware of the standard homestead exemption available to them, but there are actually several others for which you may qualify. While most are based on age, income, or disability, there are some niche exemptions, too.
Homeowners have until April 1 to apply for a homestead exemption, which can be done in-person or on-line. BTW, if I was in charge of the world, I would never schedule anything serious on that day, but that’s just me.

A well-deserved honor for Dunwoody resident
🛍️ The Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus on March 13 presented Sarah Menis, an 18-year-old high school senior from Dunwoody, with the esteemed Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award.
The recognition comes in acknowledgment of her commitment to addressing food insecurity through her nonprofit initiative, Front Porch Food Drive.
The Galloway School junior took action starting in late 2023 after learning that Dunwoody’s food pantries were running short of needed supplies. She started Front Porch Food Drive, collecting 535 pounds of staples for Malachi’s Storehouse in the initial drive. She’s done a lot more since then.
Going bald for a cause
☘️ Last week, I wrote about Donal and Ciara Fleming, co-organizers of St. Baldrick’s Atlanta pediatric cancer fundraising effort, which is held each year around St. Patrick’s Day at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead. Ciara, thanks to a life-saving cancer treatment when she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma at age two, is now a healthy 25-year-old.
Donal has had his head shaved about 20 times as part of the St. Baldrick’s tradition of showing solidarity for those undergoing cancer treatments. This year, he got a reprieve when Joe Brejda (pictured above) stepped up to the barber chair. His shearing was featured as part of Atlanta New First’s media coverage of the parade.
Donal reports this year’s fundraising total is nearing $55,000, with donations pledged earlier still OTW. In all, the Flemings have raised more than $1 million for St. Baldrick’s.
