El Paso MACC Artist-in-Residence applications due Saturday

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Saturday will be the deadline for a residency program meant to highlight Mexican American arts and culture.

Artists interested in joining the Artist-in-Residence Program (AIR) from the City of El Paso’s Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) have until 11:59 p.m. Saturday to submit their applications.

According to the City, the program is scheduled to start May 1 and end August 1.

The City said that selected artists will receive a stipend of $8,000 for their work.

Furthermore, the City described that as part of AIR, artists must commit to weekly hours in their studio and present at public events.

Regarding the studio, it is said to be 485 square feet and equipped with a countertop, sink, woodblock press, screen printing press, drying rack, worktables, easels and both natural and artificial lighting.

Below are the eligibility and proposal guidelines.

Eligibility:

  • Artists must demonstrate a three-year history of producing art, arts education, or community arts programming.
  • Artists must verify that they are not excluded or disqualified from doing business with the federal or local government due to delinquent fines, taxes, etc.
  • Artists must be active vendors with the City of El Paso.
  • Proposed work must not be a continuation of a previous project
  • Artists will provide a final report at the conclusion of a program or event that includes attendance, location, an evaluation of the program, and a financial statement.

Proposals must include:

  • Demographic Information.
  • Resume or CV demonstrating three years of arts and cultural activities within the City of El Paso.
  • Work Samples – Up to five digital work samples according to discipline.
  • Letter of Support.
  • Proposal for three-month residency – including themes, mediums, and processes will be explored.

According to MACC’s website, the selected artists will be notified on March 14.
